Admission to our College

Our enrolment is now around 470 students and continues to grow almost daily. We have day students who stay with family in and around Cairns and Gordonvale as well as from Yarrabah, and boarding students from remote communities in Cape York and the Torres Strait Islands.

To apply for admission to Djarragun College parents or care givers must visit the College to fill out an application form and to have an interview. We will accept any student who has the commitment towards being educated and who gives a promise to attend school regularly and who also promises to abide by the College values and rules. These are made quite clear to parents and students during the initial interview and both parents and students are asked to sign a commitment form.

Parents are asked to sign a deduction form agreeing to $30.00 per fortnight being deducted from their income to help pay for the bus transport to school. This money does not cover the real cost of this transport which is heavily subsidized by the school.

We have 80 boarders and many on a waiting list. While we cannot interview all parents of prospective boarders we do have telephone interviews and do checks with previous schools and community members.
